Keswick, the perfect day out

Keswick is the perfect place to spend the day.  So with a table reservation already made at Casa Bella for dinner, here are a few ideas of how to spend your day and work up an appetite!

Keswick is on the shores of Derwentwater, the Lake District’s third largest lake, so our first suggestion would naturally be a boat trip.  You can enjoy a view of the lake and hire a rowing or a motor boat and enjoy the surroundings under your own steam, or you can hop on the Keswick Launch. There are eight different jetties along the lake shore that you can choose to hop off, with options to explore different attractions, national trust woodland, watersports or as a means to start a walk up to Catbells.

If walking up a mountain is not your chosen pastime there is a fantastic walk along the old Keswick to Thelkeld railway track starting from Keswick Leisure Pool.  Accessible for wheelchairs, prams and bicycles, it's a 6 mile round trip taking in plenty of local nature and wildlife with suitable picnic stop offs along the route.

If you love learning about an area you would also enjoy a trip to Castlerigg stone circle.  You can either take a 5 minute drive from the town centre or if you’ve got an eye on our rib eye steak for dinner you might want to embark on the 4 mile round trip starting from Keswick’s Market Square that actually goes past Casa Bella so you can place your order with the chef!

If you have children with you there’s also a play park next door to the stone circle at Rookery Woods.  It’s perfect for those aged 8 or younger with zip wires, mazes and archery.  For older children and adults you can step up to the climbing wall next door with 40 rope climbs that go up to 8 metres - so you need a head for heights!

It sometimes rains in Keswick, hard to believe we know, so our rainy day option would be The Puzzling Place.  Plenty of optical illusions to engage all the family and provide some mind-boggling photos to share with family and friends on your return.

Wherever you end up for the day, we’d love to hear about it over lunch or dinner at Casa Bella, perhaps our team can offer you more places to visit for the next day!
